Thursday Afternoon Adult Portrait Sculpture

Thursday afternoon: 1-4pm (8 weeks)

Suitable for recent beginners and returning students who know the basics of handbuilding (e.g., kneading, coiling, joining with slip and scoring) although the techniques will be brushed over at the start.

Tutor: Emily Eales

In this class you will hand build and sculpt a generic adult portrait sculpture from start to bisque stage. You will learn skills like making a simple armature, building techniques, how to form the skull and neck, proportions and positioning of features, hollowing and more.

*Armatures are included in the class fees.
**Clay and Firing are extra costs.

You will need to bring

Clay: 20kg hand building clay - bring your own or purchase from us
Tools: serrated kidney, hollowing hoop tools, sponge, soft cloth/flannel, soft and hard old art paintbrushes, mirror, old t-shirt. We have a limited number of basic tools in the studio.

Emily Eales - EMMi

My work is mainly about people. I work from life and imagination. I look for movement and expression and try to capture a familiar moment or feeling. I discovered the wonders of clay in my teens, doing holiday ceramic lessons and from there became hooked. I studied ceramics at the KZN Technikon in SA and then had the good fortune to be tutored by “Garth Hoets” for 2 years. From there it has turned into a passion bordering on obsession! Portrait sculpture is my ongoing addictive challenge, trying to capture the essence of a person, that particular something that makes them “real”. I also enjoy whimsical characters where there is freedom for imagination and the child within. It’s still exciting…. My journey continues... 

Terms and Conditions

The Waikato Society of Potters (WSP) reserves the right cancel a class if it fails to achieve minimum enrolment numbers, for reasons outside of our control. A full refund will be given if the class is cancelled by the WSP less a 5% credit card fee. If a student cancels their enrolment within 72 hours of the first class starting, no refund will be given. If a student cancels their booking less than 7 days prior to the event a 50% administration charge will be deducted from the refund. Should a student cancel their enrolment any time prior to the above a 20% administration fee will be deducted from the refund.

WSP does not provide makeup sessions or credits for classes that you have missed due to your personal circumstances.less
