Suitable for beginners or those who have done a taster class and want to develop their throwing skills a little further.
Discover the wonders of wheel-thrown pottery.
A general wheel throwing class designed to teach beginners the joy of throwing pottery on the wheel. This class will suit beginners or if you have done a taster session, Mark will guide you through wheel thrown projects.
There will be a basic glazing 'how to' included. Emphasis will be on fun and ‘having a go’.
Clay and firing are not included in the cost and are extra. Clay may be purchased from the studio.
Bring an old towel or apron for wiping your clay hands on.
Your tutor: Mark Tamura
Mark is a first generation New Zealander who grew up in the foothills of the Waitakere Ranges in West Auckland, not too far from the New Lynn clay pits.
Mark was introduced to the world of ceramics through evening wheel throwing classes at WSP where he went on to be a resident artist and has now established his own home studio. Mark’s practice focuses on functional wheel-thrown wares that bring a little something extra to our daily rituals, meals with family and friends, or that freshly brewed morning cuppa. Mark also enjoys experimenting with wild clay and giving people the opportunity to bring some of their whenua into their homes for daily use or special occasions.
