A member-only event.
If you haven't been part of a raku firing before, they are fun, dramatic, and yield unpredictable but breathtaking results.
Get involved with handling glowing things! Our raku expert, David, will run this event providing our members with an opportunity to fire a few items.
Bring:
Bisque fired pieces, ideally Raku-glazed previously and ready to go. If more than 2 loads some glazing can be done on the day. Small pieces are more likely to survive while bigger pieces benefit from a good Raku clay. Pieces under 180mm.
Training on how to help and safety procedures will be given on the day. Wear long pants (jeans ideal) and closed shoes.
9:30 kiln setup.
Briefing and firing from ~10 am.
Costs:
To book, a non-refundable $6 booking fee is required which also covers your Play With Play session for the morning. There is a small fee for the area taken up in the kiln. A Raku firing sheet will be used to calculate the kiln space and cost. A Raku firing sheet will be used to calculate the kiln space and remaining cost.
Information session: Saturday 21 August, 10.15-12.15
If you have not been involved in a Raku firing, this helpful information session is being held two weeks before the firing. Discussion will include: what is likely to break, things to consider for quick Raku firing, appropriate Raku glazes and suggestions for applying.
Bring pieces you have made. Discuss suitability for Raku and suggest changes.less
