One-part plaster mold-making with Brogan Houghton.
Thursday 17th April 6-9pm
This hands-on, one-part mold-making class introduces participants to the exciting world of using Plaster of Paris to make slump and press molds.
Designed for beginners and intermediate potters, this class will teach you the basics, plus tips and tricks on making plaster molds to shape and form clay pieces.
In advance, think about what shape(s) you'd like to form. You might want to use something you already have (e.g. a bowl) or make something new in clay to cast. Bear in mind that the form you use needs to be 'open' with no undercuts.

What to bring: Please bring some smallish plastic containers. If they're about an inch bigger all around the piece you want to make, that would be ideal. We will also have some here to use.
NB plaster is messy and can ruin your clothes, so don't wear your Sunday best.
Your tutor: Brogan Houghton
I have been working with clay for about six years. Learning through the Waikato Society of Potters, to slowly setting up my personal studio at home. I started by doing a 4-week taster course and then regularly attending the play with clay sessions. The majority of my creations are wheel-thrown, but I also do a lot of hand building at my place of work.
In 2021 I taught my first class and have loved teaching ever since. Teaching pottery is a fun way that I pass on my passion for making and the skills I have learnt since working with clay. I love seeing people give it a go and get excited about the things they can create with clay!
