In this 2-day workshop you will discover ideas about porcelain ceramics and decorating using coloured clay patterns to add interest to your work. Nerikomi or Neriage is an artistic technique used to create Japanese agateware. You will use stains and oxides to colour cla, then coloured sections are layered and folded to create lines, shapes and patterns either at random or in specific places around a vessel. You will learn about colouring the clay and taking the clay through the stages of construction.
Alex Wilkinson has an honours degree in sculpture specialising in ceramic art from the Waikato Institute of Technology. She is also the maker behind the functional ware business Mystery Creek Ceramics. Mystery Creek Ceramics Supplies galleries throughout New Zealand and Singapore and specialises in the art of Nerikomi or folding coloured clay. Alex’s sculptural work has got into juried exhibitions all over New Zealand including the following shows in 2021; The National Contemporary Art Award, Portage, Waiclay, The Molly Morpeth Sculpture Exhibition and the Diamond Jubilee Exhibition of the Ceramics Association of NZ.
