About the classes
Explore a variety of art mediums and styles with our very experienced tutor Maxine McClenaghan. Kids will be able to explore art through working with clay, watercolours, mixed media, print, abstraction, collage and natural found objects across the six weeks. The program is run as two weekly sessions, or join all six workshops.
March 10 & 17 - Giant Collage Animals: Students will begin by exploring their emotions through the fun process of making papers using different media and mark making tools. They will use the papers to collage a colourful and textured background. Next they will create the eyes and nose of their chosen animal for their collage using pastels and indian ink. This will include a step by step tutorial on how to draw animal features. Lastly, the animal face will be put together on the collaged background with details added.
March 24 & 31 - Artist Trading Cards: Artist trading cards (ATCs) are miniature pieces of art that are traded around the world. Artists create, trade and collect art at organized "swap" events, either in person or online. In these workshops the students will create a set of six or more artist trading card artworks using a huge variety of media such as inks, crayons, watercolours, colour pencils, collage, pens etc... They will then have the option to swap some of their trading cards with other fellow artists in the class, including the tutor (only if they want to). To finish they will create a little fold out book to hold their completed fun artworks.
April 7 & 14 - Exploring Clay: In these workshops the students will be given time to explore with the clay alongside learning a variety of clay making techniques to create a novelty noughts and crosses game and a pinch pot creature.
Students will need:
- water & snacks
- suitable footwear
- clothes that are ok for paint and other materials that may stain
- an adventurous spirit!
