Louise Nicholas, ONZM
Louise is a survivor of sexual/violence/abuse. After taking on the justice system to pursue her allegations of rape by several police officers Louise began campaigning for the rights of survivors of sexual abuse. Between 1993 & 2006 after six gruelling court cases Louise became the public face of an issue that had largely remained hidden.
In 2007 Rotorua's former CIB boss John Dewar the man she had entrusted her original complaint in 1993 was jailed for trying to obstruct the course of justice in her case. Louise has dedicated her life to supporting and advocating for the survivors of sexual violence. She is likely to have achieved more for people affected by sexual violence than any other single individual over the past thirty years. She has been instrumental in effecting change within the New Zealand Police force on how they treat those reporting sexual/violence/abuse.
- 2007 Louise was The New Zealand Herald's 'New Zealander of the Year' placed in the Top 10 of New Zealand's Living Treasurer's.
- 2009 she co-authored a book 'Louise - My Story' after years of suppression orders
- 2014 the film 'Consent - The Louise Nicholas Story' was releaded
- 2015 Louise was made an 'Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit"

Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women
Zonta International's advocacy campaign 'Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women' campaign was launched in 2012, to raise awareness of the global pandemic of women's rights violations and has united Zonta club's worldwide in conducting impactful advocacy actions to fight violence against women and gender inequality.
Zonta International envisions a world in which women's rights are recognised as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential. In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men.
The Zonta Club of Metropolitan Dunedin is proud to host this event. We wish to thank our sponsors: Dunedin City Council, Patricia France Trust & Bright Eyes Photography without their support we could not bring this free event to the people of Dunedin.
