Suitable for recent beginners and returning students who know the basics of handbuilding
In this 2-day workshop you will hand build and sculpt an animal (cat, dog, lion etc.) from start to bisque stage. You will learn building techniques, how to form the body shape, proportions and positioning of features, hollowing and more. If you wish to sculpt a pet, please bring some reference photos.
10 kg of Macs Mud Whitestone is included.

Tools: serrated kidney, hollowing hoop tools, sponge, soft cloth/flannel, soft and hard old art paintbrushes, mirror, old t-shirt. We have a limited number of basic tools in the studio.

I work from life and imagination. I look for movement and expression and try to capture a familiar moment or feeling. I discovered the wonders of clay in my teens, doing holiday ceramic lessons and from there became hooked. I studied ceramics at the KZN Technikon in SA and then had the good fortune to be tutored by “Garth Hoets” for 2 years. From there it has turned into a passion bordering on obsession! Portrait sculpture is my ongoing addictive challenge, trying to capture the essence of a person, that particular something that makes them “real”. I also enjoy whimsical characters where there is freedom for imagination and the child within. It’s still exciting…. My journey continues...
Terms and Conditions
The Waikato Society of Potters (WSP) reserves the right cancel a workshop if it fails to achieve minimum enrolment numbers, for reasons outside of our control. A full refund will be given if the class is cancelled by the WSP less a 5% credit card fee. If a student cancels their enrolment within 72 hours of the workshop starting, no refund will be given. If a student cancels their booking less than 7 days prior to the event a 50% administration charge will be deducted from the refund. Should a student cancel their enrolment any time prior to the above a 20% administration fee will be deducted from the refund.
WSP does not provide makeup sessions or credits for workshops that you have missed due to your personal circumstances.less
